New shock absorbers make a big difference on their own, but while they’re off the car, you might consider rebuilding the suspension and steering system with new ball joints and tie rod ends for a softer, more fuel economical ride. The same goes for brakes. Worn disc and pads seriously degrade performance and stopping distance. The older vehicle brake shoes have seperate adjusters for each shoe, and an incorrect adjustment will see the vehicle swerve when the brakes are applied.
